The introduction of the Dutch truck toll is scheduled for 1 July 2026 . The Eurovignette will end in the Netherlands on 1 July 2026. At the same time, the motor vehicle tax will be reduced to a minimum. Just like in neighbouring countries, both domestic and foreign owners of trucks over 3.5 tons will then pay a rate per kilometer driven. These are vehicles of types N2 and N3. The following applies: the lower the emissions of the truck, the lower the rate. The truck toll will apply to almost all motorways and to a number of main provincial and municipal roads.
Take timely action
Do you own a truck? Then it’s important to act on time. You can already start your preparation by investigating how the truck toll will affect you. Check here (FAQ 5), among other things, which rate applies to your truck. Due to the truck toll, a Eurovignette will no longer be required in the Netherlands after 30 June 2026. Please keep this in mind when booking a vignette.
How will you pay the Dutch truck toll?
From the start of the truck toll, only trucks with a contract with a tolling service provider and functioning on-board equipment will be allowed on the road. Later this year, the approved providers with whom you can sign a contract will be announced. These providers will supply the on-board equipment needed to calculate the toll, will invoice the charges to the user, and handle payment of the collected charge to the government.
Truck toll: paving the way towards a sustainable transport sector
Vehicles that emit lower emissions will pay a lower rate. In addition, a large portion of the revenues will go towards subsidies for making road transport more sustainable and innovative, such as subsidies for the purchase of zero-emission vehicles and charging infrastructure. You can already apply for subsidies. For example, for the purchase of electric trucks and charging stations.
